A tender for 4,41,667 one-gram gold rings under the Thaimaman scheme drew 11 bidders. Joyalukkas quoted ₹0.01 for extra costs above the gold price; only Kalyan Jewellers matched. Work orders were split 70:30. That has raised the question: how can extra costs be taken at one paisa, and will quality and transparency be assured?
