Written police summons mandatory under BNSS 179 - Chennai HC
Police must issue a written summons with clear date and time, record it in the Station Diary, and must not harass people under the guise of inquiry.
The Chennai High Court held that police must issue a written summons under BNSS Section 179 when calling someone for questioning. Date and time of appearance must be clear, and the call must be recorded in the General Diary / Station Diary. Questioning must not become harassment. Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan issued the directions in a case brought by R. Raja.
