Supreme Court stays High Court order

Compassionate jobs for Karur victims' families stay in play after the Supreme Court stayed the Madurai High Court order.

After 41 people died in the Karur stampede, the Tamil Nadu government ordered compassionate government jobs for victims’ families, and Chief Minister Vijay handed over appointment orders. Three petitioners challenged the move, and the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court quashed that order. The Supreme Court has now stayed the High Court order and issued notice to the State and others. Justice Pardiwala asked: if the family’s only earning member died, should their son or daughter not be given a job?
