Tamil Nadu may lose ₹3,200 crore
Thangam Thennarasu says the mines Bill is a direct attack on fiscal federalism.
Former minister Thangam Thennarasu has warned that the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill, 2026 could cost Tamil Nadu about ₹3,200 crore. In a post on X he called the Bill a direct attack on fiscal federalism. He said it denies States tax revenue from their own mineral resources and contradicts the 2024 nine-judge Supreme Court verdict that upheld that power. The ₹3,200 crore figure is his estimate, not an official number.
