MTC conductor tender goes to a U.P. firm

An Uttar Pradesh firm, S.S. Enterprises, has won the tender to supply conductors to the Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation. Hundreds of conductors are to be hired on a temporary basis in the first phase. Trade unions and political parties have strongly opposed the move, calling it a shock while Tamil Nadu youth wait for work. Critics say contract hiring would sideline 69% reservation and risk turning permanent posts into contract jobs.
