Tamil Nadu rice prices may rise another ₹10–₹15 a kg
Millers say neighbouring states have cut paddy shipments; traders warn of further open-market hikes if supply does not stabilise.
Tamil Nadu’s open-market fine rice largely depends on paddy from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, where harvest and arrivals have fallen. Millers say neighbouring states have cut shipments citing local demand. Ponni has moved from about ₹74 to ₹78–₹80 a kg, matta from ₹76 to ₹84, and seeraga samba is selling at ₹165–₹200 in some markets. Traders warn prices could rise another ₹10–₹15 a kg if supply does not stabilise - this is a market estimate, not an official government price forecast.
