Converts from Hinduism cannot seek SC/ST Act relief, Madurai High Court says
A person who converted to Christianity and has not reconverted cannot seek relief under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the bench held.
A Madurai High Court bench held that a person who converted from Hinduism to Christianity and has not reconverted to Hinduism cannot seek relief under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. A physical education teacher from a Scheduled Caste had petitioned alleging caste discrimination by a school. The court noted evidence of his 2015 baptism, found the complaint lacked the ingredients of an offence under the Act, and dismissed the petition.
